LES DEUX PIVOINES

These beautiful peonies do not grow here in Central Texas, but I did see them yesterday at Central Market for $3 per stem.  They are gorgeous and one of the best-loved of blossoms.  These look a little like snow balls.  Warm in the shadows!

    This painting so justifies the impasto. And those warm shadows are just right. So very nice.
    And oh, the Van Gogh quote in your blog title puts into words something I've tried to say many, many times.

    Les pivoines sont un très joli symbole de printemps... Vous les avez magnifiquement bien peint en leur rendant leur délicatesse et leur fraîcheur...
